Mr. Stella is a French and Spanish teacher at Pacific Ridge School and one of the faculty advisors for Lingo Online. He earned his B.A. in French from Cornell University. He received his M.A. in Romance Linguistics and Literature and his C. Phil. in French from UCLA. His interest in languages began in 9th grade when his family hosted an exchange student from France. He returned to France to live with the student’s family for a semester during his junior year and later spent his junior year in college studying at the Sorbonne in Paris. Since then Mr. Stella has lived and worked in French speaking countries around the world. He also speaks Italian and enjoys traveling to countries where languages other than English are spoken.
As a language educator, Mr. Stella is excited to be an advisor to Lingo Online. It’s great to see students helping others in concrete and meaningful ways. The personal connections, cultural exchanges, and the development of real language teaching skills make Lingo Online a truly rewarding experience.
CJ Triana '14
Hello! I'm CJ. I'm 17 and a senior. My real name is Carter Joseph Triana. I joined Lingo Online because I really wanted to be able to learn about different cultures. I felt like being able to teach someone English and discover new things about how they live at the same time would be an amazing opportunity. The thing I like most about Lingo Online is the teaching aspect of our Service Learning group. Every student I have been assigned has been extremely polite and nice.

Some goals that I want to achieve are to improve my student in English grammar, and to teach my student how to speak fluent English. I am a very nice person and easy to talk with so feel free to say HI!!!!!

I'm sure I will do something helpful in this club
Emily St. Marie '14
I'm Emily and I am a senior at PRS. I love reading, writing, art-and teaching English of course! I joined Lingo Online because I have a fascination with learning about other cultures, and being able to directly communicate with people around the world is such a great experience. Teaching English to foreign speakers, be it in China, Peru, or Korea, has become one of my favorite hobbies, and Lingo Online has opened so many doors for me, and it has even inspired me to begin my own project involving teaching English to non-native speakers. I hope to further the group with this project by reaching out to those not involved with our Service Learning, and give everyone the means to become great teachers too.

Hello! My name is Emily Chong and I'm a twelfth grader at Pacific Ridge School. I'm fifteen years old, and I am the oldest of four children. I love running and I've run cross country for five years. I love learning different languages and this year I am taking two language classes: Mandarin and Spanish. I joined Lingo Online this year in hopes to create a relationship with a foreign student through teaching them English. I find it to be an invaluable experience in that I am able to teach and learn from someone across the world. From Lingo Online I've learned the important aspects of teaching, which helped me to better myself as a student. It is completely different to see education through the eyes of the teacher! In the near future I hope to visit Korea and Lingo Online has served as an excellent opportunity to connect with someone from Korea and learn about Korean culture.

My name is Jack Hamparyan and I am a freshman. I was born and have always lived in Southern California. To be honest, me being in Lingo was an accident, I did not have a service learning. Now I realize though it's for the best. For those kids out there struggling to learn English, I get to help them with it, and that is going to be the exciting part of this experience.
