Madison Sparber - 11th Grade
I am 17 years old and live in San Diego, California. I am an avid participant in Model United Nations and have been studying Mandarin for the past four years. My ever-growing interest in international affairs and learning about different cultures motivated me to join Lingo Online. When I first joined the group, I didn't realize how much fun I would have teaching our Korean students. I also find that I learn just as much as I teach in my lessons because my students love to describe Korean culture and even some of it's history. In the future, I hope to teach more students from diverse cultures and begin filming lessons for our new website.

Maggy Ryan - 12th Grade
I am currently a senior at Pacific Ridge and serve as a Senior Advisor for the group. My love for world languages spurs me to become one of the founding members of LingoOnline as well as one of its first leaders. During my time in the group, I have worked with three different students and enjoy having weekly meetings with them to improve their English either through formal lessons, or talking about American culture. My favorite part about working with LingoOnline is the personal connections I have made with my students. Even though I only teach one student at a time, I'm still in contact with my previous students and enjoy talking with them from time to time. After graduating, I would like to go on to found a similar group at the college that I decides to attend in Fall 2012.

Chandler Hoffmann - 12th Grade
I am 18 years old and live in Carlsbad, California. I am a senior at Pacific Ridge School and my favorite class is Chinese. I enjoy lacrosse, tutoring, and learning new languages. I joined Lingo Online because I wanted to try tutoring and really enjoy experiencing other cultures. LIngo Online has been an amazing experience. It has allowed me to experience tutoring, something I now do outside of the group. It has also allowed me to understand students and the styles of education from different countries. In the future, I hope to improve the group's website and even continue working with Lingo Online in college.

CJ Triana - 10th Grade
I'm 15 and a sophomore. I enjoy sculpting and drawing. My real name is Carter Joseph Triana. I joined Lingo Online because I really wanted to be able to learn about different cultures. I felt like being able to teach someone English and discover new things about how they live at the same time would be an amazing opportunity. The thing I like most about Lingo Online is the teaching aspect of our Service Learning group. Every student I have been assigned was extremely polite and nice. It is great to see the how quickly the students make progress and how eager they are to learn English. It is very satisfying to know that what you are giving your time to is actually having an effect on another person's life.I think one of the things I want to fulfill is to create more connections. We need to expand our groups to other countries and schools. Although Korea is very interesting and the students we teach are all very enthusiastic about learning, I feel like we need to connect with more students. We need to extend our very accessible teaching to other places in the world. I hope we can make at least one more stable connection within this school year.

Natalie Ogg - 10th Grade
I’m 15 years old and I’m a sophomore at Pacific Ridge. I love playing volleyball and soccer, and I also love watching movies. I joined Lingo Online because I think that the program has so much potential to be successful. I wanted to learn more about life in other countries from people with first-hand experience to get a unique perspective on the world. Teaching in this program has made me much more confident in speaking with new people and teaching others. I can’t wait for us to expand to more continents and I’m so excited where this group will be by the end of my PRS career!
